The ‘what am I writing’ blog
June 23, 2014
Carole Wilkinson has passed me the baton for the ‘so what are YOU writing blog’ and now I’m feeling anxious. This is what I came up with.
I’m writing illustrator briefs. Proposal pitches. I’m writing emails to friends, responses to mss and texts to my family. I am writing tags on all my new study boxes. I am writing essays. Writing lists so as not to forget. Writing dates on calendars, and poems to friends and sentimental messages in birthday cards.
When I thought about it – well, I write all the time. What she meant, though, was ‘what are you WRITING?’ I can confess that I am living with some ghosts of characters at the moment. They are not fully fleshed, their motives are unclear and their journey is still a mystery. They are 12,000 words of playing and at the moment that is all I can say, for
I am very superstitious about ‘talking’ about new work. You can almost see the magic of a new book fly out your mouth each time you discuss it.
I need to harness the magic first. Nail it down. Find out what it is. Until then, Carole, well let’s just say, I am writing. Which is a very nice place to be.
Writing is good!!
It makes me wonder how much people miss out though, when they don’t write . . .
So true, Janeen. Much the same, though, as people who paint can’t imagine about people who don’t, people who play piano, or… fill in the dots of our passions. It is a much longer discussion which I hope to have with you one day!
You are always writing Kt, inside.
